NDIS - Uncertain times

Connect and Grow Magazine: Edition 11 July - August 2024

More meetings, no outcomes yet… we now wait until 12th August 2024 onwards!

Last month, I shared how the proposed new legislation, “Getting the NDIS back on track,” has been delayed. With the Liberal and Greens parties wanting more time to ask questions, the state and territory leaders have said they need more information regarding foundation support and question the cost of setting up and delivering foundational support.

Coming soon

I am releasing a book in August called Uncharted Waters: Navigating the NDIS.

It is ready to go soon, with one or two minor changes.

It is for anyone working or part of NDIS, even as a participant, and is informal support.

There have been changes for participants without any official announcements; these changes include:

·         Plan reviews for change of circumstances now take at least nine months. On rare occasions, they are completed soon; however, not always.

·         Participants are running out of funding, leaving them without support, especially core support.

·         Many participants have seen dramatic cuts in their plan funding, especially in core and capacity building.

·         Support coordination being removed from plans and, in some cases, no LAC in the plan, also leaving participants/informal supports to work out the funding and how to work out their plans and what to do if the services they have in place are not working out and how to change service providers as well as choosing the right providers for their situation.

Providers

Many providers are now choosing to close their businesses, especially in support coordination and plan management, as the funding cuts have reduced their business.

Support worker businesses are closing due to the following:

·         Increase in SCHADS award hourly wages

·         Increase in superannuation

·         Increase in Workcover and Insurance

·         Less support work hours as participants' plan funding is cute.

We have yet to hear any announcements regarding the report provided to the Minister for the NDIS, Hon. Bill Shorten, from the NDIS registration task force. Some media coverage has stated that the report has been linked. It is important for all service providers keen to stay in the sector to ensure their business is set up properly with their documents, policies, and procedures. This is business 101 and applies to all Australian businesses, not just the NDIS.

It is anticipated that once we hear more about the legislation and whether it should be passed, announcements will be made about provider registration. If you are an NDIS provider, know that you are not alone in working out how to set up and run your business.

Resources for providers in the disability sector

To make it easier for businesses to provide services and grow your business, working with your participants to help them achieve their goals and be fully supported, I have put together a resource bundle for NDIS businesses: lifetime access. We will update the information and changes in that bundle as things change to support you as a business.

The investment is $99.00, including GST.

To access the bundle: Disability business resources.

As part of being a provider and a business, it's essential to understand the complexity of Business and check in on its health and well-being. We have a small eBook on this topic, and we offer a service called:

Investment is $6.59 including GST.
